KEY CLEAN FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENTS

KEY CLEAN FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENTS

Essential, safe, and part of clean cosmetic science.

These aren’t “chemicals to fear.” They’re essential, safe, and part of clean cosmetic science.

  • Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride

A gentle, biodegradable conditioning agent that softens and detangles hair without heavy silicone buildup. It leaves strands smoother and easier to manage — the clean-beauty alternative to traditional conditioners.

  • Lauryl Glucoside

A plant-derived cleanser made from sugar and coconut. Mild, non-stripping, and biodegradable —ideal for sensitive scalps and skin.

  •  Sodium Coco-Sulfate

A coconut-based foaming surfactant that creates that rich, satisfying lather while maintaining skin and hair comfort. A cleaner, gentler alternative to SLS.

  •  Coco-Glucoside

A mild cleansing and foaming agent derived from coconut oil and sugar. Helps create a soft, silky lather and improves product spreadability.

  •  Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate

An amino-acid-based surfactant known for being exceptionally gentle. It cleans
effectively while respecting the skin barrier.

  •  Sodium PCA

A humectant that naturally occurs in healthy skin. Helps maintain moisture and prevent trans-epidermal water loss — keeping both hair and skin feeling hydrated.

  •  Zinc PCA

A balancing compound that supports scalp health by regulating oil production while maintaining hydration.

  •  Glycerin

The classic hydration hero. A plant-derived humectant that draws moisture into the skin and hair, keeping them soft and supple.

  •  Citric Acid

Used to balance pH so formulas stay stable, gentle, and effective. Also contributes to smooth, healthy-feeling skin and hair.

  •  Sodium Benzoate & Potassium Sorbate

Clean, food-grade preservatives that keep products safe without harsh synthetics. They ensure your formulas stay fresh and microbe-free.

  •  Sodium Levulinate & Sodium Anisate

Part of a natural preservative system derived from plants. Helps keep products stable while remaining gentle on skin.

  •  Glyceryl Oleate

An emulsifier that improves the hair’s lipid layer, leaving strands feeling smoother and less prone to dryness.

NATURALLY OCCURRING FRAGRANCE MOLECULES

NATURALLY OCCURRING FRAGRANCE MOLECULES

List of fragrance molecules that occur in essential oils.

These show up on INCI lists because they occur in essential oils — not because they were added synthetically.

  •  Linalool

A soft, floral molecule found in lavender and other botanicals. Adds smooth sweetness to aromatic profiles.

A spicy, clove-like note occurring naturally in essential oils, adding warmth and depth to fragrances.

A crisp, woody compound that gives cedar, pine, and rosemary their outdoorsy freshness.

MINI SCIENCE GLOSSARY

MINI SCIENCE GLOSSARY

Acronyms& Terms Made Cute + Clear

  • EMULSIFIER

A peace-maker.
Helps oil and water mix together in a silky, stable formula. Without
emulsifiers, your conditioner would separate like a badly shaken salad
dressing.

  • SURFACTANT

Your gentle bubble-maker.
Short for “surface-active agent,” surfactants create lather, lift away oil and dirt, and help water rinse everything off smoothly.

(Drip & Dew uses plant-derived surfactants like Lauryl Glucoside and
Coco-Glucoside — not harsh ones.)

  •  SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)

A foaming agent we DON’T use.
SLS is strong and can be stripping. Drip & Dew formulas avoid it completely
and use cleaner coconut-based alternatives like Sodium Coco-Sulfate.
Good foam, zero drama.

  • Amino Acid Surfactant

The softest of the soft.
Cleansing agents made from amino acids (like Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate).
Naturally gentle and barrier-friendly.

  • Humectant

A hydration magnet.
Draws water into the skin or hair. Examples in your formulas: Glycerin,
Sodium PCA, Honey Sugars
.

  • Emollient

A skin-softener.
Smooths texture and reduces roughness. Examples: Argan oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, glyceryl oleate.

  • Preservative

Your product’s bodyguard.
Prevents microbial growth so products remain safe. Drip & Dew uses clean,
gentle ones like Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate — no parabens, no harsh systems.

  • Antioxidant

Your skin’s shield.
Protects skin from environmental stressors. Examples in your formulas: Plum Extract, Rosemary.

  •  pH Adjuster

The formula balancer.
Ingredients like Citric Acid help products match the natural pH of skin or hair so they feel comfortable and work properly.

  • Essential Oil

Nature’s fragrance.
Concentrated plant extracts that bring scent and added benefits — like
peppermint, rosemary, almond, or citrus oils. (These naturally contain
Limonene, Linalool, etc.)

  •  INCI

The official ingredients list.
Stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. It’s the
universal language every formula must use — so ingredients look “sciency” even when they're supernatural.
